Wood's performance is pitch perfect
Housewife 49 is a tour-de-force of acting, totally realistic. I should know,
I lived through those days and was straitway taken back. Just about
everything was as I remembered it - each and every character. If you
don't remember, or, indeed, did not live at that time, then I thoroughly
recomend that you take the time to rent it just to see how we were then.
This is one DVD that I can't rate highly enough, easily the best thing on
television for total representation of a bygone era and justifyably
transferred to DVD. Thoroughly Recommended.
We absolutely loved this. I know it was a made for tv movie, but we would have gladly paid to see it in a cinema. Victoria Wood is, quite frankly, a genius. The rest of the cast were excellent, the attention to detail - simply wonderful. If there was one thing we would have changed it would be the length. Happily we could have watched the story of Nella Last and her war time stories over weeks and weeks. This was a lovely film, if only it had been 10 hours instead of 2! We laughed and cried almost all the way though. Utter genius.
