How do you know? You don't!By CathPD (22 reviews) from Carlisle , 06 Mar 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]This film is rather appropriately titled. You don't really understand the story because it makes little sense. You don't really know why the acting is so bad. You don't really know why such an 'A' list cast could have agreed to make such a terrible film. I'd have expected so much more from the likes of Witherspoon and Nicholson. They serve a purpose, but there is very little depth in their characters. I don't want to include a spoiler, but let's just say that one of the main episodes in the film bares very little relevance to the rest of the film, although I think it's suppost to be important! It's not that the cast/crew/writers/director etc haven't tried to acheive a well connected storyline, it's just that they never quite succeeded. Now, as for the ending... Some films are clever enough to be able to pull off the 'It-doesn't-quite-finish-but-you-know-what-happens ', but there really should have been a proper conclusion written in for this one. It ends. You can imagine what happens, but the dialogue and the action in the last couple of scenes is so weak that you really feel you are left empty and craving something more. Sorry, I really wasn't impressed. It's not terrible, but I won't be rushing to watch it again anytime soon.

beautiful hairBy a customer , 04 Sep 2013Almost 1 star to this movie. But only because of Reese's hair. It would be cruel to recommend this to anyone!
Suprisingly good despite the title.By Bleggs (3 reviews) , 31 Aug 2013I really enjoyed this film. Paul Rudd was great - I liked his portrayal of the son of a business tycoon (Jack Nicholson) who is well and truly conned by his Dad. He plays a good dreamer. Reese Witherspoon is wonderful (brilliant actress, never seen her do anything naff) and Owen Wilson just plays himself as usual, which (lucky for him) is quite entertaining. Its a bit of a fantasy, escapism definately, but isn't that why we go to the movies? I liked the script - some of the dialogue reminded me of Woody Allen's style. Great timing, lots of laughs (especially when the secretary wants to punch Jack Nicholson) and Paul Rudd uses his physical humour a lot too (reminds me a bit of Steve Martin when he was younger). If you're a bit of a thinker and you enjoy dialogue then you'll probably enjoy this.
Reasonable RomcomBy a customer , 30 Aug 2013Amusing if a little slow. Witherspoon saves the day. The rest of the cast hang on to her coat tails.
