Most helpful review
Gone from our screens... But not forgotten!
By Zahid Hussain from Gilfach Goch... Rhondda... South Wales , 16 Jul 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
This was one of the best TV shows of the 90's and I've been trying desperately to find a copy of it on DVD or video - and after all these years it gets a DVD release... The show is the classic 'fish out of water' story about a city-dweller (played brilliantly by the dead-pan Dylan Moran) who marries a country-girl and re-locates to the county... It's written by the comedy genius Simon Nye who's behind some of the best TV comedies of the last decade... If you want gentle comedy which will amuse you and even parents - it's a good family comedy which is well written and charming... It proves that the whole family can enjoy a TV comedy and it doesn't have to be the dire 'My Family' !!!!! ... Click 'Rent' and you won't be dissapointed...- Was this review helpful to you?

(18)Gobsmacked of Stafford
By boosh39 (2 reviews) from Stone , 16 Jun 2012I was well and truly gobsmacked by the Moran fan who described this minor masterpiece as 'dull'. This is one of the most undervalued sitcoms ever made, with a sparkling script and genuine pathos. Moran is a revelation: the best stand-up of his generation and, apparently, a fine comic actor (underused in other films).- Was this review helpful to you?

Not a good choice..
By a customer from London , 19 Feb 2011I love Dylan Moran, Charlotte Coleman and Simon Nye so I was really disappointed when this program turned out to be dull. There are other excellent actors including the brilliant Mark Heap but still it doesn't work. We struggled to finish watching it, but did, just to see if it would improve but no, by the third episode my husband was reading a magazine and I was fiddling with my netbook.- Was this review helpful to you?

Amazing and poignant
By Robjox (1 review) from Oxford , 15 May 2010This is a great little show. I'm not an amazing fan of Dylan Moran but my partner is and so gave it a go an thought that with the writing of Simon Nye and the amazing Charlotte Coleman it would be worth a shout. I'm so glad I did it's not laugh out loud, and sometimes quite unsettling but still funny and amazingly poignant. It makes you think, it makes you cry and please please give it a go. I genuinely think it's worth it.- Was this review helpful to you?

early moran,not so good,
By hazeloffive (12 reviews) from Caldicot , 28 Feb 2009inew this was early stuff for dylan moran but as a huge fan of his thought i would watch to see what it was like and yes it made me laugh but nothing like the huge laughs you get seeing him live now or even from watching black books ,which if you havent watched you must if you are either a dylan moran fan or bill bailey fan it will have you on the floor with laughter, andway back to this yes it was very watchable and at times extreamly funny but not something i would feel the need towatch more than once.- Was this review helpful to you?

How go you want me - funnier
By a customer from Barnet , 21 Jan 2009I watched this when this was on TV, with my girlfriend( who is now my wife) who is from the country and as I am from the city we understood the situation the characters are in.It seemed alot funnier back then and could identify with some of the situations they were in.
Now, the writing seems slow, the characters crass stereo-types and generally not funny. Charlotte Coleman is excellent, as always, but Moran plays the same miserible character as in Black books. In black books it works, but here it just jars and makes him unlikable.
Oh how a memory can let you down.- Was this review helpful to you?
