    [Highly rated reviewer]

Nice example of the origins of Python.

And the DVD menus are inspired - you'll see what I mean when you try them.

A little dry in places, but you can see where so much of what followed came from.

  • Not very funny - but at least it's in colour.

There are some laughs to be found here, but not many. I found the funniest pieces were in John Cleese's pieces to camera. The sketches were just so-so.

However, one sketch featuring a dodgy car salesman is interesting if only for the fact that it later evolved into the famous Dead Parrot routine.

The ironic thing about this DVD is that it is actually very irritating rather than funny.

So if you do want to irritate people just play them this DVD. It'll work a treat.

Considering this features John Cleese it certainly is not his best work - it might raise the odd smile but that's about it.

I'd kind of not considered how old this actually was. For someone who's interested in the kind of satirical comedy that was big news in Britain in early 1960's then it's a good taster, but it does get a little tiresome by the end. Some of the sketches aren't funny at all any more, but well worth it just to see Tim Brooke Taylor et al doing the whole Pepperpot thing.

Python have done better but this is worth a look at some very hysterical moments but some equally cringe worthy moments
