Hmm - bit bland - but very sweet.......
By Sidney from London, England , 07 Jun 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
I found this film quite difficult to review. This is probably largely down to the way I watched it - in different segments; I would pause the DVD for a couple of days and then start up again meaning it took nearly a week in total to watch the film, and I never really got a feel for it! However, the fact that I chose to watch it this way does speak volumes - this is not the most involving film ever made, nor is it anywhere near the funniest! It does come together really well in the end though, the acting is pretty good (especially the little girl next door)and the whole film has a novel- and quite pleasurable - realistic feel to it. As usual the male characters are far better developed than the female but this is miles away from traditional Hollywood mysoginistic, image centred, contrived 'sentimental' movies - and as a result is a far more successful. Had me in tears by the end! Having said that though I just cant bring myself to really reccomend this film as I think if you put aside a whole night for it, put on your jammies, got out the popcorn etc etc you probably would feel a tad dissapointed! All in all then although I probably wouldnt 'reccommend'this film per se I would definitely not advise anyone against watching it. But then again I can also see how it is the type of film my mum (who cant stand gore, violence, depression, sex etc)would love and might be a great choice to watch with such a person.....in a vaguely bland sort of way......- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)A bit irritating
By Floggity (1 review) , 25 Jan 2013Dull. Sub-Woody Allen script and storyline. Am big Ken Branagh fan but this film drives up some serious dead ends, I felt.- Was this review helpful to you?

I really enjoy this film
By HanaPLedwith (2 reviews) from Richmond , 21 Mar 2010Ok... so the film was rather confusing, but something about this film sent me back to my giggly school girl days when I first rented Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet and fell in love with him for the first time.
He was a grumpy man, who wanted to kill his neighbours dog, meet his stalker and in some way befriends and baby sits a little girl, who he falls in love with, which then makes him want his own.- Was this review helpful to you?
