[Highly rated reviewer]this film stars the voice talents of Jay Baruchel as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, America Ferrera as Astrid, Jonah Hill as Snotface Snotlout, Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Fishlegs and Craig Ferguson as Gobber the Belch.
How To Train Your Dragon is set in a mythical world of vikings and dragons.
The story centres around a viking teenager named Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel), who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life.
The teens smarts and offbeat sense of humour is disliked by his tribe and its chief Stoick the Vast who is Hiccups father. However, when Hiccup is included in Dragon Training with the other viking teens, he sees his chance to prove he has what it takes to be a fighter.
After he entangles a dragon with a bolas-shooting cannon, Hiccup releases and ends up befriending the dragon.
This relationship flips his world upside down as he strives to convince his tribe that they do not need to be dragon-slayers.
Well worth watching !

Pure JoyBy MissyG (36 reviews) from London , 16 Jun 2012This film was pure joy from start to finish.
The story of a young Nordic boys coming of age set against the backdrop of a town plagued by Dragons is not an easy sell. But once sold it is a gift that just keeps on giving.
The animation is sublime. Wait till you see Hiccup and Astrids flying scene. I actually want a Dragon so that I can recreate that. The acting/casting is inspired. With the likes of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson,Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plase (yes from 'Kickass') and Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) you simply could not have a bad film. Seriously there is a mathematical equation that proves it. The humour is fast, clever and actually had me laughing out loud and clapping my hands with glee like a five year old child. And it is in this statement that I have found the reason that I have given a five star rating for this film.
This film does not try to be a 'Toy Story' or 'Shrek' with knowing winks to the adult audience. Well maybe Astrids introduction in to the movie is a slight nod in that direction but aside from that it simply tries to be a good film. At no point does it try to differentiate. Funny is simply funny, clever is simply clever, joy is simply joy. And as a result rather than having a smirk at some knowing reference, I was transported to the world of Dragons and left all my grown up problems behind me.
This is a story full of wonder, adventure, bravery, humour and all things fun. I recommend that you watch this movie at the earliest opportunity. Dreamworks has knocked it out of the park. And if I could give a plus five rating for this film, I would. I am off to watch this movie again. Because I could do with a bit more escapism like this in my life.
