Based on the upcoming film from DreamWorks Animation, the How to Train Your Dragon video game launches gamers into a third-person action-adventure as a Viking hero where they must embark upon an epic quest to become the ultimate dragon trainer. Gamers can play as characters ?Hiccup?? or ?Astrid?? on the vast Island of Berk, which features expanded locales from the film including Vikings? Village, Wild Zone, Training Zone and Fight Arena. In this truly larger-than-life adventure, players will train dragons, explore environments and battle in prestigious dragon tournaments as they battle for Viking victory. Plus, gamers can become the Dragon hero of their living room as they square-off with friends and family in endless head-to-head multi-player combat! The ?Create Your Dragon?? feature allows players to customize six different types of dragons, providing virtually unending combinations of ways to modify your dragon?s appearance. Level up your dragon?s speed, power, fire and other abilities through intense training to face the critical Viking challenge of becoming the ultimate dragon trainer. Then use your arsenal of trained dragons to battle friends in a variety of unique environments. Players enjoy an all-new post-movie adventure as they jump into battle as their favorite characters. Explore the picturesque Island of Berk as Hiccup or Astrid in Adventure Mode or experience fierce battle action in Arena Mode as you fight for your crown as ultimate dragon warrior. Arcade mode allows friends to select their dream team of four individually customized dragons or dragons chosen from the arcade roster, then jump in and battle against each other. In addition to Astrid and Hiccup, additional characters are playable in Multiplayer Mode including Tuffnut T., Ruffnut T., Fishlegs, and Snotlout. Mini games include Ice Sculpting, Looping Race, Flying Sheppard, Memory Torch, and Puzzle Dragon are also included. Excelling in Mini-Games earns players experience points toward levelling up your dragon, winning gold and other items to help care for dragons.

Surprisingly good

I consider my self an avid gamer akin to liking games like Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed etc etc.

I rented this just to see what it was like , and I have been Playing it since , I'm not sure what the metacritic rating is but I so far have really enjoyed this game , its quite easy though when you get used to the control layout and if you like collecting and powering up then you'll like this game although I'm almost finished the game.

its a cross between a very small adventure RPG & a beat em up , the beat em up side is a little mundane after a while but somehow it keeps you coming back for more , worth trying.

A ruined game

This would have been a fun and enjoyable game, but it was absolutely ruined by one thing, the battle controls. The battle controls were very restrictive. I was expecting a free flow battle control, but was more like a turn based battle control with very few moves.

Worth a try I personalty loved it!

I loved this game definitely a game im going to purchase in the future i rec commend it for any fan of role-playing games and of course been about dragons is amazing :D Has a leveling system also has 2 player battles where you can fight each other!

i found it very boring and tedious, i guess its ok for kids, easy to platinum though, can be done within 24 hours just don't expect alot

i thought this game was brilliant and so did my son fighting with different dragons and he liked how easy the trophies were easy to get we would recommend this game

Not the Big Screen romp I expected...

I took my son to see the movie at the cinema and enjoyed it imensely.

This game is not the typical movie to game as this is set AFTER the film not playing the movie at all.

This pretty much sums the game up:

You run around the village randomly pushing over things, picking flowers, killing sheep in order to get ingredients to feed your dragon.

You then look after your dragon like a Tamogotchi (not sure of the spelling but you get the idea).

You then take your dragon and battle it in one off fights to train them or in Tournaments to progress the story.

The battles are like old school Street Fighter set up.

Between these bouts you do 'quests' which...funnilly enough involve pushing things over, picking flowers, killing sheep or talking to people.

As you progress you unlock customisation options so you can personalise your Dragon which pretty much only makes them look worse than the movie so if fun for maybe 5 minutes.

I guess all this is great for a youngster, which, to be fair is the market audience... but if you are a big kid like me you may want to avoid this one as it is not the big screen romp I expected.
