Hudson Hawk

Hudson Hawk (Bruce Willis) has done his time. The infamous cat burglar is released from prison and plans to pursue an honest life. Some of his cronies, however, feel differently and coerce him back into a life of crime. With his best friend, Tommy Five-Tune (Danny Aiello), in tow, Hawk finds himself immersed in a series of complex burglaries, culminating with the theft of a priceless Leonardo da Vinci treasure from the Vatican. Every time Hawk thinks he has the situation under control, a new villain is thrown into the mix. A plethora of quirky characters keeps Hawk hopping, including a misguided secret-agent nun (Andie MacDowell), a greedy, megatrendy couple determined to dominate the world (Sandra Bernhard and Richard E. Grant), a ruthless butler (Donald Burton), and a sinister CIA agent (James Coburn) who heads a team of agents nicknamed after candy bars. Director Michael Lehmann (HEATHERS, AIRHEADS) uses slapstick comedy, special effects, and sight gags to keep the action moving at a raucous pace.

Bruce Willis helped write the story and the title song of this so-called action comedy, in which he stars as a retired cat burglar who is persuaded to return to his criminal activities. There are some good action scenes, especially during the heist of a Leonardo da Vinci artefact, but Willis is not a strong enough screen presence to rise above the poor material. He is good back-up, as he proved in Pulp Fiction, but that's not enough here. As villains, Richard E Grant and Sandra Bernhard are blush-makingly awful — which sadly sums up most of the movie.

    This is a film?

Ok. Its not Die Hard. Its not Broken. Its Hudson Hawk! FANTASTIC! Bruce Willis in an excellent break from his normal shoot it if it moves films. Funny tongue in cheek humour from start to finish. This is one of my favourite films and is well worth a watch. For all ages!!!!!!

    WAy ahead of its time

Which is why many people never got it. They were probably expecting DIE HARD or a hard action film but this is delightfully lighthearted and funny in a silly kind of way. NO WAY is it meant to be taken seriously. Like a film where thieves time their robberies to songs is supposed to be real? Don't watch this expecting anything else than deliberate silliness.
