An eloquent cinematic feat from Martin Scorsese that is quite possibly the best family movie of the year.

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Its just a beautifully filmed film. Its the first film where I've actually seen 3D being used to aid the storyline and the film experience rather than just using 3D for 3D's sake.

You can't help but get drawn into the characters and I just loved the style and the comic touches that were added. Well worth a watch

A nice easy movie to watch even more interesting if you know the real history story behind the Automaton. Sacha Baron Cohen character of the policeman reminded me of the one in BBC Sitcom Allo,Allo the officer who couldnt speak french.

We loved this film. It looks beautiful - the sets are fantastic. It's rather sweet (and I don't mean twee or cute). We were also intrigued by the history of film which the picture deals with - something which may get forgotten in this digital age.

  • Do kids actually sit through this?

Hugo was the topic for our film club so I had to watch it. Sadly, I have to say that it was possibly the most tedious, woodenly-acted and disappointing movie it's been my misfortune to endure for years. It had all the ingredients for being better than it was - artistic set, big name actors, clever CGI and a plot set in early 20th Paris, but it just didn't gell for me and was endlessly long. Do kids actually manage to sit through it? My fellow film clubbers loved it and sang its praises but it was just yawnsville for me coupled with embarassment at whatever character SBC was supposed to be playing. Sacha you can and have done better than this. Frankly, I just wanted you to limp off under the nearest train followed by the rest of the cast.

  • A Disappointing story line but great 3D

Disappointing film for us as adults. The 3D effect was great though, and made up for the weak storyline in our opinion.
