LOVEFiLM Review Hugo

  • 5 stars out of 5

    By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM

An eloquent cinematic feat from Martin Scorsese that is quite possibly the best family movie of the year.

  • Brilliant and beautifully designed film

Its just a beautifully filmed film. Its the first film where I've actually seen 3D being used to aid the storyline and the film experience rather than just using 3D for 3D's sake.

You can't help but get drawn into the characters and I just loved the style and the comic touches that were added. Well worth a watch

I was really not sure about watching this film, but found some brilliant roles by a number of well known names.

A key participant in this is a clockwork man who is pretty haunting, but there is one scene in particular that had me grabbing for the remote. There is one scene after about an hour where the boy wakes up to find his clockwork pocket watch missing and the clockwork man looking at him. He hears ticking then opens his pyjamas and his whole chest is clockwork. He is then slowly transformed into the clockwork man. He is having a nightmare, but seriously, my daughter couldn't watch anymore. A wonderful film for adults, but don't be fooled by the U rating.

  • Great Insomnia Cure!

Strongly disliked this movie! The story line was slow and to me very pointless. I found it really difficult to relate to the lead characters and build up any emotion towards them. A lot of inaccuracies and mistakes throughout the movie (use imdb as a reference). The only thing I slightly enjoyed was the story line with Sasha Baron Cohen. He provided some gentle surreal humour, a trait which he brings to every movie. In summary, don't watch unless you're having trouble sleeping!

  • Great adaption of the book

I really enjoyed hugo, after reading the book I wanted to see what the film was like. It was very similar to the book, a great adaption of it. The actors are great in it and would definitely recommend it.
