An eloquent cinematic feat from Martin Scorsese that is quite possibly the best family movie of the year.

[Highly rated reviewer]I guess i'm not the target audience here being that I have an average atention span..............................But oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this film was slow slow... and why on earth didn't they just make it a documentary? because let's be honest, this is what this is...albeit a documentary with a weird pointless Dickens esque sidestory and some truly awful cameos

Surprisingly scary for a U - my 9 & 11 year olds freaked outBy squareeyes (23 reviews) from Peterborough , 20 Apr 2013
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideA key participant in this is a clockwork man who is pretty haunting, but there is one scene in particular that had me grabbing for the remote. There is one scene after about an hour where the boy wakes up to find his clockwork pocket watch missing and the clockwork man looking at him. He hears ticking then opens his pyjamas and his whole chest is clockwork. He is then slowly transformed into the clockwork man. He is having a nightmare, but seriously, my daughter couldn't watch anymore. A wonderful film for adults, but don't be fooled by the U rating.
Great Insomnia Cure!By FDLM (1 review) , 12 Apr 2013Strongly disliked this movie! The story line was slow and to me very pointless. I found it really difficult to relate to the lead characters and build up any emotion towards them. A lot of inaccuracies and mistakes throughout the movie (use imdb as a reference). The only thing I slightly enjoyed was the story line with Sasha Baron Cohen. He provided some gentle surreal humour, a trait which he brings to every movie. In summary, don't watch unless you're having trouble sleeping!
Good actor wasted in a boring filmBy angelrose73 (5 reviews) , 06 Apr 2013Could have made for a good film but was a let down, not enough story line and very slow i expected more
Great adaption of the bookBy Beth_Alice (1 review) , 01 Apr 2013I really enjoyed hugo, after reading the book I wanted to see what the film was like. It was very similar to the book, a great adaption of it. The actors are great in it and would definitely recommend it.
3D+visuals wonderful, pace tediousBy strayfish (11 reviews) , 31 Mar 2013I bought this despite reviews describing the film as boring and overly long because the 3D effects were rated well. This is exactly the case. The visuals are extraordinary - part CGI, part real world - and the 3D is very well used. The acting, with some remarkable actors, is understated, well-observed, and elegant, falling somewhere between the abstract and silent movie - upon which the story is centred . But the pace is utterly glacial; only the 3D effects kept me watching and I really do not see how a child could be persuaded to persevere with it except maybe in installments.
