Simply too slow

When you go to watch a film based on a comic book there are certain things you have in your mind as a prerequisite, the most obvious being action, action and more action. The problem with this film is that nothing - and i mean *nothing* - happens in the first 90 minutes. Granted after an hour and a half you are presented with 20-25 minutes of unadulterated comic book action, but unfortunately until that happens its quite simply dull. Its such a shame that it turned out this way as I was really looking forward to seeing the Hulk get the Spiderman/Daredevil/Batman blockbuster treatment it deserved. However I had to watch this film four times to actually be able to make it through the first 90 minutes without dozing off (seriously - Merchant Ivory films have more action!)...and I honestly believe that if it wasn't for the stunning good looks of Jennifer Connelly, I wouldn't have made it on the fourth watch. I give this movie 2 stars; one star for the great cast, Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly, Sam Elliott & Nick Nolte (who looks remarkably like Kris Kristofferson in this film) and one star for the special effects in the last half hour, I unlike many here appreciated the amount of effort that was put into the CGI. Great cast, Great story, Reasonable script, Good special effects - just overlong, uninteresting and plain dull dull dull for the first 90 minutes.

Vastly under-rated film

The Hulk can be split into two parts. The first half is a very well done psychological drama the second is some of the best comic book action around. Ang Lee presents this to the viewer in a comic book style which can take a few moments to get used to but if you hang in there The Hulk is a thoroughly engrossing and enjoyable film. The trailers do not do the effects justice and once seen in context they work extremely well. The attention to detail on the Hulks face is something that has to be seen to be believed.

The hulk made me sulk

I have a distant memory from my childhood of being entertained by the hulk and was looking forward to watching the big green blockbuster!

I have to say having sat through the film (which deserves merit alone!) that I was extremely disappointed. I found the film dull and have to say that it didn't grip me in the slightest. The sight of the Hulk bounding miles at a time and standing 20ft tall was a joke and betrayal to my distant memory.

I would urge you to choose something else as there as got to be better than this.

Computer graphics weren't too bad but the story line wasn't all that crash hot, let alone the acting but i still managed to watch the whole movie so it can't have been all that bad.

This film was shocking, I really had high hopes as i loved the tv series. Huge amounts of willpower are required to stay awake for the first hour of the film. When he actually turns in to Hulk, it is brilliant as there is total distruction. If you rent this film make sure you skip straight to the end as the rest is crap.

Not your average comic book adaptation

I'm not one of those comic book readers so I have no idea if this film is true to Stan Lee's anti hero but I do know a good film when I see one. This is visually stunning and although the trailers would have worried people that the special effects were a tad dodgy this is not the case. It hardly breaks the mould when it comes to summer blockbusters but it does tax your brain a little more. Eric Bana is superb as the split personality burdoned Bruce Banner, son of David that we all grew up with in the 70's/80's. There is a reasonable plot line tracing back Bruce's childhood and of course a lovely lady to calm him down and show his affectionate side. It's perhaps a little too slow for younger children and those who demand a high gun/death ratio but very effective and worth a second viewing, especially to work out what happens later in the film.

Rent it now and make your own mind up. And watch out for Lou Ferringo (the original non-animated Hulk from the TV series) in a very brief cameo near the beginning.

CRAP

Honking Hulk

Ok, I admit I'm not a huge fan of comic book adaptations, but I did remember the 70s telly series with fondness, so I thought I'd give this blockbuster version a fair go.

What a mistake! This was by far the worst movie I have seen committed to celluloid in a long time. The plot was clearly cobbled together from some notes scribbled on loo paper, the 'stars' brought their characters to life in only a shambling zombie stylee and the hyped CGI effects were patchy to say the least. So Hulk might turn green and swollen and somewhat aggressive when he's angry but since when has changing size been symptomatic of anger (unless to cover up poor CGI - hmmm) and since when has it provided the ability to leap like a flea? And what was with the mutant poodle?

My time was so wasted by this film, it almost made me rip out of my togs and turn my skin avacado. Save yourselves - do not rent this movie!

A big pile of ripped pants!

Marvel Comic Comes to Life!!!!

Had to pack the girlfriend away for this one, as she groaned when I mentioned it was in the DVD. What a film she missed - it sent me so back to my youth, picking up loads of Marvel Comics during my summer holidays. My brother warned me I would love it & I wasn't disappointed. As the title states, any Marvel Comic fan will love this one, as it really did put a great big fat smile on my face from start to finish.

This is a <b>spectacularly awful film</b> with nothing, in my opinion, to redeem it.<p>Things are reaching a sorry pass when a green CGI mute provides a less wooden performance than the human cast.<p>I only bothered to watch this film because a colleague lent it to me so that I could verify how bad it was.<p>If I'd paid to see it I would have demanded my money back. As it was I felt like demanding some compensation anyway. That's 2 hours of my life that I won't get back!<p>As far as I could make out, Bruce Banner changes into The Hulk whenever he experiences indigestion, as his facial expression certainly failed to portray anything approaching rage.<p>I am amazed that Ang Lee was willing to remain associated with this total turkey.<p><i>A complete waste of celluloid and rendering cycles. See it if you must, but don't say I didn't warn you.</i>
