It's not bad...but it's not good either!

An unusual translation from Comic Book to Silver Screen
For a character so big and bold, the subject matter is very low-key and makes you wonder what type of movie it actually is?
Eric Bana is totally miscast as the timid Bruce Banner and acts mostly pent-up through out his scenes, Jennifer Connelly is dough-eyed and lazy with the subject matter and with Nick Nolte's mannerisms and growl, he would of been better suited at Gen. Ross than the pedestrian Sam Elliot.
The film lacks characters and even when the Hulk shows up (too late in the movie!!!) there isn't any 'What the?' and 'RUN...Get outta here!!!' moments from extras to make it more engaging, he just shows up in San Francisco and nobody bats an eye-lid!
Spiderman or Superman just have to fly past the screen to get the 'wow' factor...not in this movie.
It's hard to blame the actors or Marvel on this film, I think the blame should be with the empty events that take place courtesy of James Schamas's script. There are no major villians, no epic heroic moment where Hulk saves a major disaster, even the origin story is pointless compared to the original comic book plot or TV show for that matter.
Ang Lee has a timid style and he makes his HULK a bouncing pondering green bobble of mass, when he should be a runaway torpedo, unstoppable and courageous...alas we get split screens and snappy edits to pace up the slow boring scenes.
Why oh why did they not offer this concept to the likes of Joe Dante or Steven Spielberg with a rousing score in the style of John Williams 'Superman' or Jerry Goldsmith's 'Capricorn One'/'Innerspace!'
HULK is simple a really great concept that has literally been lost in translation.....a shame!
