A lesser know gem from the Merchant Ivory canon
By TrustThisReviewer from London , 04 Jun 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
An interesting "before they were really famous" film, originally made for LWT and screened on terrestrial TV in the UK before being given a very limited arthouse run in the cinema. Excellent performances from Peggy Ashcroft (pre-Jewel in the Crown) as the formidable Lady G. This is not a period drama, beloved of M.I.'s team) but more a study into the difference between British and American art collectors out to nab India's many royal treasures for their museums in the 70s... nicely cleaned up for this DVD release and with some interesting extras.- Was this review helpful to you?

(2)Insignificant!
By Kiran Sidhar from London, England , 20 Feb 2006Hullabaloo Over Georgie & Bonnie's Pictures.
As the title says, its all about nothing. It may claim to be about the objects of art, the Maharajas and the world of collectors, but it fails on all count. The talents of Victor Banerjee are wasted, as he doesnt come across as Maharaja, merely a rich playboy. Peggy Ashcroft tries her best, but there is no substance to her part. The only person that comes out of this self indulgent project is Aprana Sen, who does a wonderful job of the bored princess. It looks dated and insignificant.- Was this review helpful to you?
