Just dull and certainly not worth the good reputation it has acquired
By roncoach (365 reviews) from suffolk , 06 Nov 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
This film seems to have everything going for it : the Boulting Brothers, the great Peter Sellers, an era when Britain was churning out excellent comedy films.
But, in spite of its good reputation with afficianados and its credentials, I have always ( and I've watched it quite a number of times, hoping to find 'something'), I just find this film to be dull : the performances, except Sellers, are dull ( Attenborough in particular is awful; so is the always silly Ian Carmichael), the screenplay and dialogue are dull, the black and white 'factory town' backdrop is dull.
If you want to see Sellers in a really good British comedy, before he left for Hollywood, take a look at ' Only Two Can Play', 'Lavendar Hill Mob' or so many other films of the era.

(34)Fifties Fun.
By Propsman (6 reviews) , 11 Jan 2013A clever Boulting comedy with an astute take on British industrial relations and social class in the fifties. Funny and worth renting.- Was this review helpful to you?

Classic Class Struggle
By 5ft7offootballheaven (300 reviews) from London , 15 Jan 2011'Management' and 'Workers' each as bad as each other. Peter Sellers is great as Kite the Union rep - 'come Brothers'. His mannerisms and garbled language are as apparent today in union speak as they obviously were then. Terry Thomas gives it the usual treatment as does Ian Carmichael. The best scenes though I think are the ensemble moments when the workers (all with different regional accents) discuss the appropriate ways to work and the rules to follow. The true hero / heroine though is probably 'Mother' Kite and l love the table in the Kite house which always has jam and a big loaf on it. Makes me nostalgic for 50s Britain and Stanley's bubble car.- Was this review helpful to you?

I'm Alright Jack
By a customer from Northolt , 25 Jun 2010This classic film may not mean so much to people who cannot remember the industrial strife of the time as I can. However it is worth watching for the great performances of all the cast, Peter Sellers is outstanding as ever but my favourite is the wonderful Irene Handl. A very enjoyable film.- Was this review helpful to you?

I'm NOT alright Jack!
By a customer from England , 11 Jun 2010I am guessing that at the time this was made the humour was relevant. However the humour has not survived the times and I found this rather boring. Superb cast though.- Was this review helpful to you?
