Reading the book 'I Dreamed of Africa' is an adventure. It is a trip through Kenya, but also through every single emotion a human body possesses. Kuki Gallman is gifted when it comes to describing the characters in her life in depth.

That is exactly what is lacking in the movie: DEPTH. Was it the actors? No, I don't think so.

Was it the Director? Yes, I do think so. To me it looked as though the Director was in a hurry to get all the scenes recorded as soon as possible, grabbing bits from every chapter of the book. There is no eye for the essence. The feeling behind all that happens in Kuki's life.

I was disappointed and I wish I would have never seen the movie. I am wondering what Kuki Gallman thinks herself?

There are many similarities between this film and Out of Africa and if you liked the Meryl Streep/Robert Redford film the chances are you will like this one too.

Out of Africa told the story of a Danish woman in East Africa. I Dreamed of Africa tells the story of an Italian woman in Kenya.

Both are tragic love stories with A list leading ladies. But while Out of Africa was an Oscar winning box office hit praised by the critics, I Dreamed of Africa went by virtually unnoticed.

Yet there isn't a whisker of difference between the two films. I enjoyed the Kim Bassinger film just as much as the Meryl Streep movie although both films are clearly targeted at a female rather than a male audience.

This was the third time of viewing and it still held us in it's power and reduced me to tears on several occasions. A fantastic film and very well cast and directed.

Dull trashy romance. Like a 1980s TV movie, with no dramatic tension, nothing remotely interesting in the story, and wooden acting.

I was also disappointed with this film. Little of the feeling for the country and the characters that is evident in Kukki Gallman's book comes out in the film. The filming of the scenery is beautiful but then again it is somehow bland. It lacks the really stunning beauty of Kenya and the fullness of the characters.

This is a real example of it being much better to see the film before reading the book. The book, I have already read twice and would willingly read several more times. I doubt if I will see the fim again.

I loved this movie. Its so moving and shows off Africas beauty well. The fact it is a true story is amazing and inspiring. I recommend if you have a passion for something big. Some sad parts in here too!
