Brilliant Observation of a realtionship
By Minny (565 reviews) from London , 07 Nov 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
This film has it all - brilliant acting, realistic storyline and I loved all the characters. It portrays a mother/son relationship but could equally apply to a mother/daughter realtionship. I just loved it and what a talent Mr Xavier Dolan is !!!!! Everything about this film is class.- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)A mother with the patience of a saint
By papatez (293 reviews) from folkestone , 17 May 2012I found it difficult not to reach for the fast forward button at the beginning but I'm glad that I didn't. As the movie progressed I moved from 'this is way over the top' to gently nodding my head in recognition of elements of my own youth. It is difficult to watch in parts but is never the less brilliant dissection of teenager/parent relationships. A classic piece of French film making that appears to stop when they run out of film rather than being brought to a proper closer. A great film to watch with your own teenagers but be prepared for the arguments that it will almost certainly generate- Was this review helpful to you?

Boring self indulgent
By mk2009 (42 reviews) from Cardiff , 05 Oct 2011Boring and ponderous. Spoilt adolescent boy finds out about real life, kisses other boys and acts superior. Dull insulated relationship with mummy explored in monotonous detail.- Was this review helpful to you?

complex relationship
By a customer , 03 Oct 2011This film is really interesting, it speaks about the relation of a young male with love and his place in the society. The way the director shows the relation of the homosexual couple is impressive: the director is very young and the relations show very complex feelings and situation. It is a very human film, very well played and thought.- Was this review helpful to you?

Growing pains.
By sailonby (108 reviews) from Exeter , 04 Aug 2011This is a film which captures brilliantly teen-age angst and I guess Xavier Dolan was purging his own feelings about his relationship with his mother. None-the -less, this is an excellently scripted and directed film with a first-class performance from Xavier himself as the troubled teen-ager. We have all suffered the pangs of growing up and breaking from our parents and sympathies in this film alternate from mother to son and back again.
It's an enthralling film, about real people instead of Hollywood gangsters and cops and I thoroughly recommend it. Thank goodness for French cinema!- Was this review helpful to you?
