The only way to describe 'I Saw the Devil' would be to describe it as the Lawrence of Arabia of serial killer movies, an epic of envelope-pushing ultra-violence that manages to trump Oldboy as the new classic of South Korean filmmaking.

I challenge anyone to give up on this one once it gets started, as it grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go for the lengthy running time. Those familiar with 'A Bittersweet Life' or 'A Tale of Two Sisters' will know the style of director (Kim Jee-Woon), and be prepared for explosive and traumatic action scenes, unexpected plot developments, and snippets of black humour - I Saw the Devil takes these elements and boosts the whole concoction to a frenzied extreme. This film was censored for violence in Korea upon release:- those familar with korean film will know that this is no mean feat.

The comparison with Se7en is understandable, but this film has a more heightened sense of tragedy, and more interesting characters within.

Approach with caution, but approach nonetheless.

Not your typical horror film, v refreshing. I dislike horrors when they keep the bad guy from you with a vale/ mask or something, but from the very start you get to see who the bad guy is, what he does to his victims, and just how messed up he actually is.

The film is VERY gory, much more so than Saw / Hostel. Some scenes are really bad. I love horrors but I had to look away at some points; the rape, the taxi, the sex... not nice. This guy just goes from town to town causing upset, and leaving dead bodies in his wake!

The best bit is when the 'good guy' smashes his car door off, v effective!! Was like watching a Bourne film!

Wasn't impressed with the very ending; I thought it was unnecessary to bring the parents back and to see what they saw. By the end of the film I almost forgot who the good and bad guys were, as the line was so blurry!

I think this is a seriously overrated film. Its entire premise isn't much of a departure from the sleuth of action-oriented noir flicks that we've seen from South Korea in the recent years. Following the success of Oldboy - which was a fairly original movie in style if not plot - Korean moviemakers have tried time and again to capture the slipstream of Parn Chan-wook's revenge trilogy by copying the same cinematic style and plot points, which have by now become cliched and formulaic. I Saw the Devil takes the genre to an extreme, employing a kind of kill-everyone-then-see-who's-left that betrays its potential. There is nothing wrong with a simplistic plot, yet this film revels in its simplicity to the extent that it can be passed off as a gore slasher, leaving the two fantastic lead actors to carry the film on the passion of their performances. I honestly do not see much of a difference between this title and The Man from Nowhere starring Won Bin, or Lee Byung-hun's earlier title Beautiful Life. The sooner the Korean film industry kicks off this adolescent phase, the sooner it can go back to making some truly original films.

a film that paints a clear message. a pyscho is always forever a pyscho. put them back out there and they will do the same thing over and over. a cops girlfriend is murdered and instead of simply taking the murderer out he stalks him from one victim to the next each time inflicting harm on him before letting him go allowing him to continue his killing and rape spree and sets off events to spiral more and more out of control.

This film was okay, the acting was good but the script is just like other films, wanted it to be something different.
