Amazing stuff.By Szamanka (5 reviews) from London , 04 Apr 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]The only way to describe 'I Saw the Devil' would be to describe it as the Lawrence of Arabia of serial killer movies, an epic of envelope-pushing ultra-violence that manages to trump Oldboy as the new classic of South Korean filmmaking.
I challenge anyone to give up on this one once it gets started, as it grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go for the lengthy running time. Those familiar with 'A Bittersweet Life' or 'A Tale of Two Sisters' will know the style of director (Kim Jee-Woon), and be prepared for explosive and traumatic action scenes, unexpected plot developments, and snippets of black humour - I Saw the Devil takes these elements and boosts the whole concoction to a frenzied extreme. This film was censored for violence in Korea upon release:- those familar with korean film will know that this is no mean feat.
The comparison with Se7en is understandable, but this film has a more heightened sense of tragedy, and more interesting characters within.
Approach with caution, but approach nonetheless.

Savagely sublime!!!!!!!!!!By SeteezenX (106 reviews) , 25 Feb 2013Great movie, albeit a tad long winded. Extremely violent, but have seen worse, nice acting too, the killer being a particularly sick puppy(you wouldn't take him to meet you're nan). Not to be missed!
Relentless, Revenge, RefreshingBy Alperian (2 reviews) , 20 Feb 2013Riveting, tense and has a refreshingly original take on the serial killer genre. This Korean offering must surely appear in an English language incarnation very soon. Perhaps it is over-long (at just under 2hrs 20mins) and maybe a little too violent for some tastes, but is a must see nonetheless.
Too graphic to be goodBy tzec (71 reviews) , 17 Feb 2013What went against this film was the relentless graphic violence. This distracted from what is a good story line that was otherwise well enacted.

The devil is in the detailBy liminalspacetime (2 reviews) , 17 Jan 2013Don't be put by 'subtitles'. The dialogue is fairly basic, and secondary to the visuals, which are very good. Great cinematography and good performances all round. The violence and moral questioning may suggest an asian tarantino, but with none of the wit and wordplay. Nevertheless it pushes the revenge/vigilante genre along nicely.
