This routine reworking of the 1960s Robert Culp/Bill Cosby TV espionage series has US secret agent Alex Scott (Owen Wilson) going undercover as the assistant to boxing champion Kelly Robinson (Eddie Murphy). Scott uses Robinson to get close to a billionaire industrialist (Malcolm McDowell), who is intent on selling an invisible plane to the highest bidder. The laid-back Wilson and the motormouthed Murphy have an engaging on-screen chemistry — the movie is at its best during their obviously improvised bouts of bickering — and there is some fun spy gadgetry on display. However, the likeable twosome are sold short by witless writing, predictable plotting and bog-standard action sequences that fail to spark this action comedy into any sort of life.

  • Lacklustre action comedy and an attempt to create a new franchise from an old TV series; it has just a little spark between its two stars to give it an occasional semblance of life.

    Better than I expected

I actually really enjoyed this film when I was expecting not to. Eddie Murphy was on top form, without being too annoying and Owen Wilson made the perfect hapless spy who actually was quite good at his job. Eddie Murphy has shown that he is still able to pull off action adventure films with flair when I thought he was now consigned to the mediocre family farces of his recent times. Not a bad bod for a 41yr old Eddie! Owen Wilson can do no wrong in my eyes (bit of a crush going on here I think). It proves he can act in his own right without being Ben Stiller's perfect side-kick.

funny film and worth hiring it out. Love the gadets that are used through out the film and makes you think what you could have now if you was a secret agent.

If you like Owen Wilson type comedies you will like this one. Does a double act with Eddie Murphy in this spoof spy movie. The seem to work quite well together.

Quite good spy/action/comedy, better from Eddie Murphy though not back to his best, but Owen Wilson is superb. Good twist at the end though predictable Hollywood ending.

hmmmmmmmm, not bad this, owen wilson and eddie murphy haven't got the same chemistry together as owen wilson has with jackie chan in the two films they made together (both of them great by the way,go see!!) but it's engaging enough and has you laughing in all the right places.eddie murphy is actually pretty damn good playing a boxing champ and owen wilson just plays owen wilson obvioulsy.pretty good way to use up an hour and a half!

Same style of movie as XXX but this is better. Owen Wilson always cracks me up and is on fine form again. Eddie Murphy is, well, Eddie Murphy and Famke Janssen is always hot. Very entertaining 3.5 stars!!

Really enjoyable with a lot of laughs

This is the first film I have seen Owen Wilson in, and I thought he was great. Eddie Murphy was on top form, providing a lot of the laughs. A really good film for all the family.

    Potty Pair of Professionals

This is one of the many movies made in recent years based upon a successful TV series, in this case the US 1960s show which originally starred Bill Cosby as the Intelligence Agent and Robert Culp as the sportsman recruited to assist and provide a cover story for their activities.

In this spoof by the successful actress and director Betty Thomas the roles are reversed as Alex the Special Agent is played by Owen Wilson and Kelly the World famous Boxing Champion is played by none other than Eddie Murphy. Femme Fatale Rachel is played by the seductive Dutch actress Famke Janssen, reprising her Golden-Eye hard girl role and the International Evil mastermind Gundars is well portrayed by that veteran baddie, Malcolm McDowell.

Despite the hard knocks that it received from the critics, I found that the film had pace, a cynical attitude towards the world of espionage (like XXX that was released the same year) and a good on screen relationship between Murphy and Wilson that sparks quite well. Yes, there are continuity errors, but this is an action movie, not Pride and Prejudice and therefore the odd editing adjustment is harmless enough.

Whilst this was not quite as funny as Dr Doolittle, Murphy was on form, looking fighting fit, the settings were quite impressive and overall I found the film quite enjoyable. The plot is no sillier than the average spy movie and the chases and shoot outs are pretty standard. There are one or two innovations and the ending could have been better, but it was not a waste of ninety minutes.

    Worth the money.
