Judge Dredd director Danny Cannon's sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer is noisy, flashy and deadly dull. College beauty-in-peril Jennifer Love Hewitt returns from the first film, this time fighting off the masked fisherman during the hurricane season in the Bahamas. Without the horror-nerd energy of writer Kevin Williamson (who scripted the original), this plotless slab of wet T-shirt terror drearily alternates between the sou'westered spectre freaking out his victims with fake scares and viciously hooking them by the throat. Why pop star Brandy chose to make her feature-film debut as Hewitt's plucky room-mate in this dismal offering is anyone's guess.
A sequel to a successful, self-referential horror movie that settles for more old-fashioned shocks; the gore flows, but predictability sets in early.
Usually sequels are quite crap but this one was good. Why on earth the lunatic fisherman never died the first time I have no idea, left you wondering at the end if there will be a number three movie what with him hiding under the bed.
If you haven't seen the original ' I Know what you did last Summer'don't worry, you could still rent this. The story starts with stalker victim Julie James going on a lovely beach holiday with her friends. The island is cut off in a storm and with no way off, Julie must fight a deadly killer to survive.
This is the average gory teen horror (Scream, Urban Legends, House of Wax). There is little tension and the only shocks are when Julie discovers people killed in varoius gory ways. This really isn't a sequel in terms of plot, the only similiar things are the characters. Rent it if you have seen ' I know what you did...', but avoid if you have not.
