Dated, but fun

I always wanted to see more Arthur Askey films for two reasons.
One, my dear old Nan used to rave about Big-hearted Arthur and how funny he was. And two, the one and only film I did manage to catch was The Ghost Train, and that's very entertaining indeed.
Well, thanks to the marvels of DVD (and LoveFilm!), I finally get my chance! And was it worth the wait? Depends...
If you love old style comedy and Music Hall in particular, you'll have a whale of a time. This is a fast-paced, totally nonsensical movie about two vaudevillians who need to raise some cash to save their show, and the shenanigans they get up to to achieve their aims. The dialogue zips by, and all rationality goes totally out of the window. It's a real period piece, but if comedy from a gentler time floats your boat, this won't disappoint.
If however you think Zoolander and Dodgeball are the pinnacle of comedic achievement, step away now!
I'll be renting more, and looking forward to it. Thanks Nan!- Was this review helpful to you?
