A Very Right and Proper film
By santasboyfriend (14 reviews) from Bristol , 06 Dec 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
A classic of the early postwar period, this film tells how a wartime entertainer and impersonator, Corporal Clifton-James, is made to impersonate Field-Marshal Mongomery in a high-profile tour of Africa, in an effort to convince the Germans that the D-Day landings will in fact come from Africa.
Based on Clifton-James' memoirs, the film is particularly of historical interest because Clifton-James plays himself in the film, which gives you a good idea of just how good an impersonator he actually was. One of the few successfully light-hearted stories of the war, and well worth seeing.- Was this review helpful to you?

By stumpymuffin (49 reviews) from Ramsgate , 04 May 2008Brilliant film - have the auto-biography of this gentleman - just the ending of the film has been changed - but otherwise true to the book.- Was this review helpful to you?

Full On!
By Cato (703 reviews) from Lydbury North , 13 Nov 2007What a pleasant surprise this film was. It deals with the old story of a humble man picked from obscurity to pretend to be an eminent person of his age, and although this was a film, the real double was the main actor. He was Clifton James and what a decent cove he appeared to be. Apart from him, a lot of actors who were to become stars in British comedy films put in smalll parts. Interesting to see Sid James acting the same as he always did! You don't have to be a war film fanatic to gain a lot of pleasure from this excellent film.- Was this review helpful to you?
