    [Highly rated reviewer]

Having visited Iceland with all it's beautiful scenery and unique culture, I was very keen to re-visit it on DVD.

Instead of bringing us the flavour of the country this 'documentary' treats us to a 'Men and Motors' style format.

Complete with background music and flashy film editing we are treated to a series of scenes focusing entirely on the ego of the presenter. Ian Wright goes for a helicopter ride, Ian Wright has a mudbath, Ian Wright spits out Shark Meat etc etc. The film editors are clearly keen to 'earn their money' so instead of letting the scenery do the talking we have to put up with quick frame jumps and picture dubbing. Quite honestly they could have made the same programme on Croydon and it would have been just as interesting.

I would have been ashamed to produce this. Bring back David Attenborough or better still take your own camcorder when you go- you won't make a worse job of it.

Cursory, dumbed-down, and badly narrated! I was hoping for a lot more, especially with all the stunning places and scenery Iceland has to offer. I guess the reindeer slaughter was interesting though!

  • Not as bad as the other reviewers would have us believe

Having borrowed other films in this series, we knew what to expect of Ian Wright. He's not frightened of tackling an arctic roll in the Arctc in his own kayak or digging a snow hole for the night. Some of the food he had to eat was a bit gruesome to the British palate but needs must when that's all the food there is. I always thought I'd like to visit these 2 countries but having seen this, think they're probabaly more for the younger travellers. I'll stick to Scotland in a very wet August evening instead!

  • A bit too blokey and more than a touch shallow

Of course, the landscapes of Iceland and Greenland should speak for themselves but up against Ian Wright in this travel film, even they struggle! His chirpy banter ends up appearing ignorant of and disrespectful to the subject matter, which is a bit of a pity. Nevertheless, there are moments when the countries are allowed to shine through and then the viewer is left wanting more. Not a five star piece by any means, but not a one star either....which means you may find a lot to enjoy, or, like me, you may find a lot to irritate!
