corruption and scandale in Italian politics

Filmed in noir style with actors speaking to camera this is a biography of Andreottis political life! Murder is rife and as in all Italian life the catholic church and mafia heavily involved! I found it very difficult to follow, not having a PHD in modern italian history! This is really for an Italian audience primarily! Largely incomprehensible even with subtitles and the style becomes tedious after a while! However persevere im sure you will enjoy the music if nothing else!- Was this review helpful to you?

Director Paolo Sorrentino covers about 20 years of his life (to cover all of it would need several movies)…..the bribery scandals, the mafia hit men and murders of several public figures….and the investigations into Andreotti’s connections with the mafia. Personally, I think Andreotti was connected to the mafia because I was born in Italy and no one stays in power that long without their consent. Tough But Enjoyable

Theres no doubt that there should be more films about Italian politics as at times it makes the Godfather and The Sopranos look light hearted.
Superbly acted by the lead worthy of awards and slickly directed and fast paced. Of course its not for everyone but if you can deal with all the info theres an enjoyable film here.- Was this review helpful to you?

Stranger than fiction. Hello,... Silvio?
By RichPickings (167 reviews) from 'kin Bruges , 09 Jan 2012Really enjoyed this. Is it a doc, is it a film? Dunno. Italian politics seemed like a dreadful and corrupt caper under Andreotti. Am I an expert on its rituals after watching this? Nope. But I have seen The Godfather and this shares its authority and its depiction of base violence. Beautifully framed and coloured with its stylised blood spattering of the dark classical streets and sunlit gardens. The cronies and sycophants are as hilarious as the immaculate, gnomic premier. Before Berlusconi there was...

It draws an original portrait of the most enigmatic politician in Italian history, a man who has been synonymous of power for about half a century and who is linked to some of the darkest events of Italian post-war history. However, unlike the Bunga Bunga King, Andreotti has apparently never been motivated by greed and personal enrichment, has never been involved in any sexual scandal and has not brought the level of disrepute that Italy has enjoyed in the last few years. Interesting to compare old school political evil with the new...
Some funny moment and food for thoughts, but a bit too sophisticated and complicated, especially for those who haven't got the benefit of knowing the background events...- Was this review helpful to you?

Italian politics meets conspiracy thriller
By a customer , 01 Aug 2011Coldly gripping about an unbelievable period and state of affairs - politics and justice - in a 'modern' European country.Not that much seems to have changed.
Without some prior knowledge of events in Italy, this might be a bit hard to follow.
Good atmosphere, acting
