Infamous Spanish director Jess Franco (VAMPYROS LESBOS) was the perfect choice to helm this third installment in the Ilsa series. It's a surprisingly well-photographed little piece of sado-masochistic erotic schlock, with Isla (Dyanne Thorne) now operating a clinic for sexually aberrant women in the jungles of Los Polomas, South America. Of course the clinic is only a cover, with Ilsa regularly torturing the inmates for political, sexual, and exploitative purposes (she makes films of their suffering, and sells them). A brave woman (Tania Busselier) goes undercover as a patient in the clinic to find her sister. Instead she finds things like whippings, burnings, rapes, electrocutions, suffocation, needle torture, shock treatment and cannibalism. In the calmer moments there's softcore lesbianism and numerous shower scenes. Franco favorite Lina Romay co-stars as Ilsa's masochistic lover. The violence is never overly convincing, but this is still pretty disturbing stuff, and not for the faint of heart. It's a Candian production filmed in Switzerland and set in South America, with an international cast that includes Angela Ritschard, Howard Maurer, Peggy Markoff, and Franco himself, as Dr. Arkos.

I don't know what movie journals you grew up with. The chances are, given the general awareness of this film and that you're reading this review, that you were involved in the fanzine world of the 80's and early 90's. Sheer Filth, Shock Xpress, Cinefantastique, Crimson Celluloid, Samhain etc... I was, and this film is possibly one of the most represented by this press. So for years, Ilsa was built up in my mind as a sleazy dirty awesome little movie of which when the ban was lifted would become essential viewing. It didn't. I was sorely disappointed with the 90 minutes I spent in front of this frankly rubbish film. Awful soundtrack, dreadful scripting, acting ( We're not talking so kitch/rubbish that its great - Cell Block H anyone? ), direction etc. The same kind of attributes I'd associate with I Spit On Your Grave. But most of all the promise that was never delivered. This Ilsa film has been released on DVD and without any marketing budget to support, its unlikely you'll come across this film unless you already know about it. So all I can do is to steer 'give-it-a-chancers/vaguely-hear d-of-its' away from this and towards a better destination. Wherever you end up!
What can I say A pretty poor film. I exspected this film to be 'ilsa she wolf of the ss' as advertised on mad Rons clips from hell.
Well basically the story is poor a physicatric hospital where the warden disfigures the inmates, whilst her staff sell porno snuff movies of the inmates at the local bar.
An excuse to have women wandering around with only hospital shirts on.
There is one classic and very sick peice where one female inmate forces the other to lick her butt hole clean after taking a crap. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that in a movie before. I belive this is called tossing the salad in America.
Viewing it is really upto you but be warned.
