A heady brew of art house pretension and softcore sleaze, Immoral Tales is beautifully shot but sometimes-tedious offering from the cult Polish director. Split into four short stories, the film dips into various tales of ?immoral? activities with each one given a dose of Bororwczyk?s perversity. The first scene involves a young girl performing fellatio on her cousin whilst he explains the tidal mechanism (!) Next up we find a young woman getting a little over friendly with a cucumber and this is followed by a tale of a Countess who invites young maidens to cavort naked in her castle (I won?t divulge any further info). The final segment is a basically a thinly veiled attack on organised religion. Although most will no doubt be distracted by the copious amounts of full-frontal nudity, the film does showcase Borowczyk?s undoubted skills in the visual department. His continual framing of apparently irrelevant items and use of bright colour schemes is very similar in style to that of Jess Franco. Though the pace of the film can be frustratingly slow and artistic merit is placed over plot, this is certainly an unique film and will please both his fans and fans of Euro-sleaze alike. 3/5.
Difficult to work out its merits. Art House perhaps if that's your thing but I reckon most people title would agree with my title.
