Beethoven Immortal
By Chrisaljack (308 reviews) from Hellingly , 19 Feb 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a film that has 'stood the test of time' much like Beethoven himself. Strong cast, good use of flash-back, the focus on Beethoven's turmoil associated with his deafness and superb music make this a really engrossing couple of hours cinema.- Was this review helpful to you?

(23)Utter genius
By a customer from Bath, UK , 05 Feb 2012Gary Oldman is incredible. And the mystery of who is 'my immortal beloved' reveals itself very slowly. There is a wonderfully moving scene when the genius, Beethoven, (who has tried hard to keep his failing hearing a secret), gets 'found out' by a pupil and her father, as they eavesdrop on him while he is composing. They are so moved by his achingly beautiful music that they come out of their hiding place - tears running down their cheeks - to congratulate him on his work. Unwittingly, they startle him half out of his wits, before they realise that the great man is deaf.- Was this review helpful to you?

A classic
By andymos (64 reviews) from worcestershire , 07 Dec 2011Excellent! A great story, well put together with outstanding portrayal by Gary Oldman. Quite tragic tale of a flawed genius whose talent was all the more incredible for the fact he couldn't hear what he was composing or playing. See this !- Was this review helpful to you?

Dun Dun Dun Daahh!
By RichPickings (167 reviews) from 'kin Bruges , 11 Nov 2010All the fab snippets of music, fighting with a fairly creative sound design, dipping in and out of the encroaching deafness, distractingly but to great effect. Slightly fanciful story, at the service of high drama, with those special twists and neat reveals. Its not quite right to compare this to 'Amadeus', that would be like mistaking your Twinkle Twinkle for your Moonlight and you wouldn't do that, right?. Quite passionate, quite indulgent, slightly cheeky. Wears its history quite well.- Was this review helpful to you?
