Director Steve Mcqueen is convinced Michael Fassbender missed out on an Academy Awards nomination for risque film Shame because Americans are "too scared of sex". Fassbender has won a string of honours for his portrayal of a sex addict in the movie, and was also tipped for a Golden Globe and BAFTA.
