It?s now a year since I first saw this great film at the cinema and nine months since I wrote the first review (above). At the time I had no idea that it was based on a true story and the director was none other than Jim Sheridan who had directed such classics as In the Name of The Father and My Left Foot. I had told my fifteen year old daughter and her friend that it was a film that they should both see and really enjoy so I rented the film. I am so glad that I did!

The girls cried throughout the film and both rated it as one of the best films that they had seen in a long time. Then it was my turn, and again although not one for showing much emotion I also shed a tear or three! After watching the film I looked at the deleted scenes and then something which I seldom do, I watched and listened to the directors? commentary. This for me was another very enjoyable hour and a half and then watching the final ?extra?, ?the making of? was also superb listening to Jim Sheridan and his two daughters regaling their lives so many years ago.

Sheridan is a brilliant director and I am still surprised that this film didn?t get the recognition that it truly deserved at the Oscars. The two Bolger sisters were breathtaking especially the younger of the sisters Emma, she has a very long and lucrative career ahead of her. Samantha Morton is already an accomplished actress but she really brought her part to life. Paddy Considine as her husband also acted superbly. Dijmon Hounsou was not a name that I recognised when I first watched the film at the cinema but once again he deserved the praise in his role as the neighbour who was dying from aids.

Overall this movie is a must see and must not be missed but make sure you have the Kleenex handy.
