  • Another Eastwood Hit

    [Highly rated reviewer]

The older he gets , the better he gets. In the Line Of Fire is a taut fast moving thriller from the first frames right to the end. Director Wolfgang Petersen's sure touch and Eastwood's laconic dialogue combines tension, humour and a bit of romance.

Eastwood plays a world weary secret agent, Frank Horrigan, who discovers a plot to kill the president. The assasin (the incomparable John Malcovich) is a loner with a grudge and former CIA hit man. He teases and twists Horrigan and one is never quite sure how it will all end.

Briallantly written and edited and with an excellent supporting cast including Rene Russo and John Mahoney. I can strongly reccomend this film as an excellent night's entertainment.

  • Good background noise.

Don't know why I like this! It's pretty predictable. I think it's nostalgia- this was one of my first 'dates'- he gave me the old 'a group of us are going to the cinema', and then everyone else couldn't make it- smooth. By far not the worst line I've ever heard. I hear he's a mathmatician now. So- the film- I watched it while I was working from home and wanted something on in the background, and it's good for that.

  • A good film worth watching

I loved this film, its gripping and keeps you guessing. Its final action scene was a little anti-climactic yet I thought it was a good watch. You really got to know the characters and while it is long its worth every minute. I thoroughly recommend watching this film

Enjoyed this film for its turns. Good pase also, kept you on your toes. Great to see Clint Eastwood as his sharp edged & smooth self as ever, but better! A real good watch!

This is not one of Clint's best, but certainly entertains - with the evil John Malkovitch doing what he does well - act!

Little curious why 'flocoyle' questions Malkovitch being able to do this and Johnny English - it's called being a proficient actor, and taking on many and various roles. Nowt to do with money, I suspect, just a job which he and Clint Eastwood do consummately well..

Advertised as a thriller but there was no suspense at the 'shooting of the president' climax - the 'thriller' part was the lead up with Malkovich's cool, taunting character seemingly always one step ahead of Eastwood's.

Eastwood's acting was a bit wooden and some of the 'leaps of faith' in the script a bit far fetched - eg that Eastwood would be allowed anywhere near the protection of the President, given his background and age; the amount of pressure that a couple of mere agents can exert over high-powered politicians, White House experts and other agencies; the fact that the Eastwood character would be allowed to pull up outside the hotel where the Presidential fund-rasing dinner is being held in a taxi and run inside un-challenged; that the sharpshooters would not have had night sights for a dinner being held in the evening, when Eastwood and Malkovich are trapped in the lift; and a couple of others.

Still - a fairly enjoyable couple of hours' worth of watching, if a little formulaic.
