The Great Garland

OK. It's a 1949 musical about a couple of people who correspond with each other but never meet but one works in a music shop and the other one gets a job there. Doesn't sound all that promising, does it? But there's one ingredient that makes this film very watchable indeed, and that's the great Judy Garland. She just seema to light up any film she's in, although the other actors, including Van Johnson, are very good in this offering as well. You know what's going to happen after five minutes, but somehow it doesn't matter at all. Settle down and wallow.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Best Version

I think I like this one best, it has some hillarious scenes which the later versions have not included. A shame, although some of the script is kept in 'Shop Around the Corner' and the musical element is an added bonus.- Was this review helpful to you?

Before 'You've Got Mail'

A shop girl (Garland) corresponds with a man (Johnson) through a dating agency not knowing he is her detested shop manager.
