It's worth the risk.....
By Hurdlemagurdle (79 reviews) from Scotland , 20 Apr 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, it's slow and very little happens, but the supressed emotion that is built up by the leads, similar to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, is what makes this film one of my favourites. Setting it in the sixties also works well. My advice would be - if you're bored after half an hour turn off, the pace doesn't change. If you're not bored after half an hour you're going to love it. Go on and risk it.... it's only half an hour you'll waste.- Was this review helpful to you?

(105)In the mood for sleeping
By Bobsview (554 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 25 Mar 2013Two spouses who are neighbours form a relationship unuited by the common bond that both thier partners are having an affair. The only thing you'll be in the mood for is sleeping. It sent me off fairly rapidly. It is just so slow and mundane and ordinary and boring. Obviously I must be missing something as there are so many enthusiastic reviews but I fear that this may be pseudo intellectuals enthusing over something esoteric knowing that ordinary movie watchers will not get it. Well I certainly did not get it. There is no passion, no romance and certainly nothing steamy. There is no anything actually.- Was this review helpful to you?

Mesmerizing ...
By Mimi_LDN (1 review) , 08 Feb 2013I definitively agree with the fact that it is not going to be everyone's cup of tea and that you should give it half an hour. Personally I was hooked within 10 minutes. The film is a succession of absolutely mesmerizing scenes made of incredible staging and beautiful 60's decorum. An absolute must, if you are into art, photography, or even South East Asian films aesthetic. That film is just 1 hour and a half of pure beauty. And I haven't even mention the music...A definite must-see.- Was this review helpful to you?

Cinema as it should be.
By Jono79con (15 reviews) , 07 Feb 2013Worth watching for the cinematography alone!. Tony Leung and Maggie Chung are brilliant in it. Would suggest ppl rent 2046 also.- Was this review helpful to you?

Brilliant film
By a customer , 23 Jan 2013Very touching and nicely portrayed. I cried watching this...of course it is slow paced but that is the way it is meant to be otherwise it would be a completely different type of film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Pain from Etiquette
By BazzaViews (1 review) , 19 Jul 2012Beautifully portrayed. How sad that etiquette can produce such pain.
It also shows how we have changed for the worse in that such beauty and immaculate dress can come from such squalid surroundings.- Was this review helpful to you?
