A treat
By Andybe (195 reviews) from Richmond , 20 Feb 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
What a treat it was to watch 'In the Shadow of the Moon'... not because I'm a space junkie, or anything like that; rather, experiencing the awe and wonder held by the men of the Apollo programme 40 years after one of mankind's greatest accomplishments is moving. It's wonderful to see 75 year old Alan Bean acting like a kid in a candy store as he recalls not only his own moonshot, but also the respect he had (has) for all the people involved in the programme.
It's a shame Neil Armstrong declined to participate in this, but the film doesn't suffer from a lack of great stories as a result.
I (vaguely) remember watching the moon broadcast on the TV as a 3 year old with my family. Of course I had no idea what I was watching and what all the fuss was about, but the fact that I saw again the same footage from that distant recollection made for a nice walk down memory lane.- Was this review helpful to you?

Science and humanity
By a customer , 24 Aug 2012The film reveals incredible science and the incredible humanity. This was mankind's greatest moment. Like the London Olympics, the lunar landings cost an awful lot but revealed a lot too.- Was this review helpful to you?

Apollo 13 without Hollywood garnish...great!!
By a customer , 07 Aug 2012awe inspiring, moving, spectacular, courageous are just some of the words i could use after id watched this film .no Hollywood glitz or flannel. a story of determination and passion and drive (albeit driven by the cold war) to literally go where no one had gone before. the Apollo astronauts were.....are the last real frontiersmen who really did put there lives on the line. this film documents all the ups and deadly downs these men were subjected to on a regular basis in there own words. its still amazing what they did with the then available technology.....makes you wonder why we haven`t gone back with advancements science has made!? maybe they don't make astronauts like they use to?- Was this review helpful to you?
