Would you pay $1 million to sleep with Demi Moore? Robert Redford thinks she's worth it, as he puts the proposal to Moore's husband, Woody Harrelson, after learning they need the money. The interesting “would you do it?” premise of Adrian Lyne's drama goes slightly awry as the moral issues are dumped in favour of all three main characters simply showing how selfish they are, and as a result this is probably best viewed as a commentary on the excesses and emptiness of the early 1990s. But, with these leads, who are we to quibble? Just tune in to watch two of Hollywood's top stars doing what they do best, with Harrelson giving them a run for their money.

  • Glutinous problem drama of transcendent silliness; perhaps the dilemma would have seemed more interesting if the millionaire had been less personable than Redford, although it would still have remained a ridiculous enterprise.

    Classic

I hadn't ever seen this film despite it being on TV loads of times and the fact it has been out for ages. I like Woody Harrelson as an actor, but here you see his softer side, not his usual witty 'White Men Can't Jump' style.

It is a great story from start to end, and it something you want to watch as a great pick me up, although I wasn't expecting to the see the ending happen the way it did.

You can't loose from this film, it is an all time classic. Rent it now, preferably when you are after a film nice for watching with your missus, she loved it too!

Diana does the dirty on David.

Diana (Demi Moore) marries her childhood sweetheart David Murphy (Woody Harrelson) an Architect with a bright future. Unfortunately it is the early 1990s and a recession sets in (sounds familiar) and the loving couple are facing financial failure.

Solution is to borrow cash, go to Las Vegas and win a fortune (great plan). When they arrive Diana is not only lucky for David on day one, but also lucky for John Gage (Robert Redford) a passing Billionaire. On day two they should not have got out of bed, disaster for David and Diana results in the fabled million dollars a night offer from Gage.

We all remember the plot, but after 16 years I could not quite remember why I had fond memories of this tale of jealousy and woe.

Well, despite the jaded and cynical plot, it was well acted by all concerned. Not only was Demi Moore in her prime, but Woody was well cast as the desperate husband who dearly loves his wife. Robert Redford made a brilliant, cynical, manipulative mogul and the background characters from the chauffer to Billy Connelly in a cameo of himself, all played their parts well.

Directed by Adrian Lyne, the English commercials maker who went to America and then came up with Flashdance and Fatal Attraction was able to get sincere and believable performances from his excellent cast.

The story is well told at a reasonable pace, with enough twists to retain the audience's interest. I found it still fresh since I last saw it on the big screen in 1993, although I will not miss it if I do not see it again for another decade or so.

Worth the cost of the hire and a titillating two hours of my time.

    The Other Woody

'I'm not naïve, I'm superficial,' Woody Harrelson declares in Paul Schrader's new film, The Walker. Some people would suggest the actor has it the wrong way round. After all, he first planted himself in the public eye playing the dumbest jock on television in eight seasons of the sitcom Cheers. I've met Harrelson twice. The first time he was promoting Natural Born Killers, and I was impressed with how honestly he discussed his own anger issues. He talked about Jung and the need to explore your Read more
