Truman Capote again

‘Infamous’ is about the American author Truman Capote and his obsession with the murder of a farming family in Kansas in 1959 which became the inspiration for his masterpiece ‘In Cold Blood’. Does this sound familiar? It was also the subject-matter of the 2005 film ‘Capote’.
It is impossible to watch one without comparing it to the other, but there are differences between the two which make ‘Infamous’ worth watching. ‘Capote’ was realistic and wholly believable. Based on Gerald Clarke’s acclaimed biography, it portrayed Truman Capote as a self-centred and determined man manipulating the killers to gain their trust and therefore the material necessary to write his book. ‘Infamous’ is an altogether lighter and more glamorous affair. It is based on ‘Truman Capote’ by George Plimpton and contains fictional scenes and characters and a sprinkling of humour. Truman is portrayed as a softer and more likeable character who becomes emotionally drawn to one of the killers (Daniel Craig) - including a lingering kiss in his jail cell. Toby Jones gives a strong performance as Capote, complete with high-pitched voice, but the film doesn’t allow him to bring quite the depth of character to the role as Philip Seymour Hoffman was allowed in ‘Capote’. Sandra Bullock is a suitably restrained Nelle Harper Lee, but if you are a Gwynneth Paltrow fan be warned that all she does is sing a song.- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer , 25 Mar 2013At the beginning i couldn't relate to the character (capote) and this made the film feel boring to me but as the character's feeling's changed because of the condemned man perry, it changed my perpective of the character capote as well as the film itself and i became sucked in.- Was this review helpful to you?

Incredible performances and has more to say than I expected

'Infamous' struggles with itself at first, but once it finds gear, it depicts rather wonderfully the events that lead to Truman Capote's 'In Cold Blood'. Whilst looking occasionally televisual, it is nevertheless a brilliant balance of humour and melancholy, which keeps you entertained and engaged, whilst never losing track of the morose event at its heart. It has something to say about the artist, too. A star-studded cast all turn in terrific performances in a film that was quickly overshadowed, but if you thought Philip S. Hoffman gave a good performance as the man (which he did), then you haven't seen anything yet; Tobey Jones disappears here! Recommended viewing.- Was this review helpful to you?

Better than I thought.

I confess I thought the Capote voice would get too annoying to watch, but Toby Jones is so enjoyable in the part that you forget all about it and get sucked into the character. Fantastic Drama

Both roles superbly portrayed by 2 of britains great actors Toby Jones and Daniel Craig. Well worth watching this great cast of actors in an intriguing movie that had me hooked from the beginning- Was this review helpful to you?
