Essential viewing for anyone who has ever used a bank!
By AWMI (1 review) from Evesham UK , 01 Mar 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
This film rightly won the Oscar for Best Documentary.
Of all the Oscar winners I've seen this year this is the one I'd recommend most highly. It really is essential viewing for anyone who has ever used a bank, taken a loan, invested savings or has a pension.
The film shows how the finance industry has lobbied for for decades for reduced regulation and has been given it by Governments of all political persuasion. Once obtained, it used this deregulation to knowingly mislead investors into buying worthless commodities while making huge profits, all the while aware that there would be no comeback for those involved.
Unlike a Michael Moore film this film concentrates purely on the facts and condemns the guilty using their own words.
Editing, music and imagery are all excellent and the scope is broad enough to be complete while giving just enough detail to be easily understood by a layperson like me.
The film has understandably ruffled some feathers and attracted criticism. But when a film shines a light clearly on the biggest fraud ever perpetrated some vested interest are bound to be annoyed.- Was this review helpful to you?
