Huge disappointment!
By helentom (2 reviews) , 11 Jun 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
My husband and I hadn't been so excited about seeing a film in years, as we had heard such great things about it from friends and critics.
It started promisingly, and there were some genuinely jumpy moments, but it quickly descended into a farcical, absurd joke of a film!
I tried to stay with it, and let a few silly moments go (such as the little ghost boy jiving and jumping out of the cupboard giggling), but the scene involving a psychic wearing a WWII-esque gas mask and the photos of the old lady getting closer, and closer.... hysterical! My husband actually had to walk out the back to collect himself as we were shaking with laughter.
Don't get me wrong, I genuinely wanted to be scared, and actually scare very easily! However, the art of subtlety was completely lost, and the ghostly characters were outrageously silly and badly styled. I'm sure I spotted Darth Maul and the whole cast of the Michael Jackson Thriller video in the final scenes!
Would only recommend for comedy entertainment purposes.- Was this review helpful to you?

(352)Had me jumping out my seat!
By KingFan (15 reviews) , 25 Mar 2013I am a horror movie addict and nothing scares me - except the twins in The Shining! I went to the cinema to see this and I can honestly say I've never been so scared in a movie theater in my life. I jumped on numerous occasions and that usually never happens to me. This film does get really silly as it approaches the end but if you can get passed that then what you get is a really decent modern horror. Think of Poltergeist but with more jumpy scenes. I even had a nightmare after watching it about the very end of the movie! - Although I had eaten cheese before bed... Watch in the dark and enjoy!- Was this review helpful to you?

A turkey and its not even Christmas
By a customer , 13 Mar 2013Really poor - if you've seen Poltergeist then this is a poor attempt to dish up something similar and it fails miserably - don't waste your time - well that's my opinion for what its worth- Was this review helpful to you?

Poltergeist meets Excorcist and Ghostbusters
By ad31677 (5 reviews) , 03 Mar 2013Disappointing. Although the astral projection element seemed quite original, I found the whole thing quite predictable and not at all scary. It really just seems like a dull pastiche of other movies of the genre. The comic element of the two guys working for Elise may or may not have been intended but I could not help be thinking of Ghostbusters, at which point my wife and I could no longer take the already flimsy story-line seriously. If you've nothing better to do for an hour and a half and have already had a six-pack, then this is the movie for you.- Was this review helpful to you?

just too long and slow and poor
By Chicken_Legs (7 reviews) , 23 Feb 2013Gave up watching this after the first hour as I had some paint to watch drying out. The latter was much more entertaining. There are still bad films being made and this was one of them. Sure, the special effects are good but you need more than SFX in a film these days. Donojono says 'you do need a brain to follow it' but even slugs have brains and I doubt a slug would have stuck with this turkey. Avoid.- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer , 14 Feb 2013Now I am a serious movie lover once its on I WILL watch it to the end, always at leaste give it that much, but this film was hard to leave on because I was just that bored from begining to end, the acting is awful and the story is so unoriginal its shocking, if you want to be even somewhat scared stick with the old classics- Was this review helpful to you?
