This screen version of the cuddly cyborg cartoon series is the most mindless Hollywood movie you're ever likely to find. Abandoning all plot after the first reel, it devotes its energies to beating us senseless with a succession of slapstick effects sequences. Matthew Broderick's performance as the computerised cop is so bland he barely exists, while the script is witless, ineptly structured and solely reliant on Gadget's extendable bits and bobs. After a few scenes, the novelty wears very thin.
Lavish, gimmick-laden extravaganza resembling a live-action cartoon, but, lacking a convincing narrative, the knockabout action soon palls.
Disney's live-action rendition of the animated TV series starts encouragingly enough, in cartoon style - replete with... read more on Time Out
Not one of the best films to watch on a Saturday Nite. Somewhere along I am sure there is a storyline. A little bit of a let down, was expecting a liitle more.
A good fun movie for kids and adults with a crazy outlook!
this one is for the whole family funny jokes and great visual efects if you can remember the cartoon its pretty much the same the same thing, good family viewing.
Truly disappointing, even my seven year old i-will-watch-anything- son was not able to sit through this.
As a kid I loved Insp Gadget...but this was a disappointment. I think the casting was poor to begin with. Thankfully the film wasn't on very long. Admittingly the special effects were very good, but didn't make up for the poor acting and poor story. Should I bother watching number 2???

my son enjoyed it ,fun too watch
While far superior to Inspector Gadget II it still falls far short of the original cartoon series. Not the least is the down playing of the roles of his dog and his neice
The kids loved this film so did I plenty of laughs and loads of action
A Security Man's dreams all come at once when he is selected to trail being a cybernet police officer. Daft and silly in parts, but nonethe less funny. The children loved it and laughed in all the right places. I remember watching the cartoon Inspector Gadget and I loved that, this film version isn't as good but it's a fair remake.

An old one but a good one. This is well worth a try. When you watch it once you will watch it again and again.
