Inspector Morse - Fat Chance

Victoria Hazlett is a brilliant student who aspired to the priesthood in the Anglican Church. When she collapses and dies during an exam, the post-mortem reveals that she was likely poisoned, but the pathologist can't quite identify one of the substances found in her system. Victoria was a member of a group that advocated women priests and ran a shelter for women who required assistance in their life. Several members of the group feel that an anti-womens' group led by the Reverend Geoffrey Boyd is responsible, but there is little evidence. There is a link to a nearby weight loss clinic. Morse is quite attracted to one of the women in the group but is taken aback when he learns she lied to him about her whereabouts the night before Victoria died.

A fatal interaction between eating and metabolic disorders

A brilliant candidate taking a post-doc exam at St Saviour's College dies suddenly while writing her paper. It turns out that she is a member of a feminist organisation known as Pax which promotes the advancement of women in the clergy. Such views (rather radical for 1990) are strongly opposed by the head cleric at St Saviour's (Maurice Denham). Pax's leader (Zoe Wanamaker) becomes a love interest for Morse and it turns out that another of their members is a contender for the chaplaincy at St Saviour's. The story gradually comes to incorporate some rather shady dealings in a glitzy slimming organisation with an improbably glamorous lab technician (Josephine Welcome). Nice views of New College quad and chapel and a couple of shots taken in Nuffield College. Trivia dept - if you look carefully you will see that the chest and skull X-rays of the dead girl are reversed on the viewing boxes. The medical adviser obviously was having a day off when this bit was filmed.
