Not-so-happy family dynamics in rural Oxfordshire
By a customer from Stoke Poges , 28 Mar 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
This episode opens in a marvellous fortified country house, complete with moat and drawbridge. When the head of the family is brutally murdered suspicion falls initially on his two sons, the younger of whom is played by Martin Clunes, who brings a sneering superciliousness rather than the comic persona with which he is more often associated these days. Anna Massey plays the dead man's widow with the creepy aloofness that she does so well. As the story develops it becomes clear that complex family relationships, real and imaginary, lie behind a web of intrigue and murder. Morse becomes personally hounded by an overzealous newspaper reporter and is nearly taken off the case when a chance observation leads to a Eureka moment in the nick of time.- Was this review helpful to you?
