Another heading so that I can remember in one line the central focus of the plot. MOre about policemen than criminals and some serious points about the morality of policing in the face of unspeakable crime. Some heavy coincidences are needed to hold the plot together but not really unbelievable and an involving Morse with plenty of strands running through the plot to keep you guessing and thinking.

  • Unsolved child murder case reopened and closed

    Rated - 3.0 stars

A senior policeman, recently awarded the OBE, dies after a struggle with an intruder and part of manuscript for a forthcoming book is stolen. It turns out that the missing section deals with the unsolved murder of a child some years previously. Ken Colley (always good in menacing and spooky roles) plays a colleague of the dead policeman, and his involvement in the events surrounding the previous child murder gradually comes to light. Lewis nearly cracks the mystery but eventually Morse puts the pieces together. Plenty of indoor shots of the Randolph hotel and the old Radcliffe Infirmary.
