Give this a miss - especially if you like Morse
By a customer from Devon , 13 Aug 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
I am a fan of Morse and have enjoyed every other episode I have seen. However, this one is pretty atrocious. The plot is laughable and could have been written by a teenager - and the script is truly dreadful - what on earth was Danny Boyle thinking? All the characters are straight out of bad horror novels and the actors are forced to deal with bloated and stagey dialogue. Plus, Keith Allen just can't act. Overall very disappointing. If you enjoy good crime drama watch any Morse other than this one.- Was this review helpful to you?

(9)Lammas - the day of reckoning
By Pendog (35 reviews) from Stoke Poges , 26 Apr 2010Satanism is to the fore in this episode. We know who the villain is but the story behind the main sequence of events only gradually unfolds. A rather slim Keith Allen plays an occultist on the run from a mental hospital, where he had been supervised by a very edgy Dr Martin (Harriet Walter). Richard Griffiths is an amiable clergyman with a surprising knowledge of matters Satanic. Some details of the plot were frankly laughable e.g. the discovery of the hostage in the church after the priest had been summoned by the opening bars of Bach's D minor Toccata, a highly melodramatic fire ritual in the woods, and the inevitable final confrontation between Morse and his quarry when all common sense would have dictated an alternative method of capture! However there was a sustained build up of tension, with generally good acting.- Was this review helpful to you?
