It's a beautiful continuation of very young Liz Taylor and Mickey Rooney's National Velvet. Velvet takes in her tragically orphaned and very stroppy American teenage niece. She comes to terms with the upheaval of losing her parents and moving to England through the bond she forms with The Pi's last foal. Their talents are spotted by trainer Anthony Hopkins who gives them an Olympic dream. But it's not schmaltzy, not predictable, it's beautifully filmed, heart warming, heart wrenching with a haunting soundtrack that will make you want to learn the piano. You probably need a vague interest (or a friend who has one) in horses, as it is otherwise a wee bit of a chick flick. Apart from that, it's a gem!
