This soon to be cult classic is one of my favorite films-directed by Bob Gale(Back to the Future) and with an awesome cast of James Marsden (X-Men), Gary Oldman, Amy Stewart and Christopher Lloyd and some great cameo's. Its about a guy with his life already planned ahead of him, taking a road-trip with a castrated genie to meet the imaginary girl of his dreams, along an interstate that doesn't exist. Watch it-its just so great to see a good film that managed to miss any sort of hype.

A great film full of whimsy. Clever, witty, and a bit tongue-in-cheek. Another words, perfect!

This little gem has been overlooked unfortunately, by most people.

In the vein of films like, 'Big Fish' and 'The Fall', it's an adult fairy tale. A fun adventure with an amazing cast. It blows mind that this wasn't a bigger success.

Neal (James Marsden) is given a mission by a mysterious stranger (Christopher Lloyd), to deliver a strange package. The package is irrelevant. It's the mission, just as in life. What will he discover about himself on his quest and his new mission?

Neal is being pushed into a career that his father imposes on him. He wants to be an artist. What successful business man is going to be content having his son work as an artist? None according to this film. His love life is unfullfilled even though he has a girlfriend. He keeps seeing billboards of a mysterious woman (Amy Smart) beckoning him. He knows she's the perfect woman for him although he's never met her and doesn't know her name.

Gary Oldman is a man who grants wishes that appears throughout the film. I didn't recognize Gary, which is a first for me. I was shocked to get to the credits without having even realized he was in the film.

Smart cameos by Ann-Margaret, Kurt Russell, enhance the film.

  • Not fun, just dumb

Badly made, unenjoyable nonsense. I can't understand the positive reviews. The tone is weird: it is a fantasy/comedy, but it isn't any fun; every scene fell flat, leaving me bewildered. What is the point of this movie? An unpleasant experience unless you're a bit simple and a bit stoned.

I was expecting more from this based on the synopsis and the cast. Bob Gale has help from his usual collaborators including the ever great Christopher Lloyd and a bite sized cameo from Michael J Fox - however this film has such a dated and formulaic style that it lacks any emotion. James Marsden is not a great actor but he gives it his best smile and muddles through but Gary Oldman who is a great actor comes across worst of all. I would say that at best this was a whimsical but miscast children's film.

Not the worst film, but a waste of an evening, nevertheless. This is a coming of age tale of a 'Golden Boy' finding himself on a surreal road trip that helps him decide on the next step in his approaching adult life; quite literally, without any metaphysical meaning here. It's a very simple story. If that sounds bland - so is the script. Most 18 year old men would find this very patronizing. The script alternates between childishly banal dialogue and scenes of expletive laden language that sounds inappropriate given the earlier squeaky clean scenes; what age is it aimed at? Main problem - the main character is as substantial as his super white smile and you cannot emphasis or care what happens to him.

Surprisingly good, not exactly a 'hollywood Blockbuster' but an endearing heartfelt fantasy story. A bit of a surprise, but I really enjoyed it.
