Marianne Faithfull gives a truly outstanding performance in what must be her first starring role; her portrayal of Maggie is excellent, a lot of which is down to her body language and facial expressions - you really do feel empathy for the character; a doormat of a woman who has had a hard life and would do literally anything to raise funds for her dying grandson's medical treatment - don't really want to give much else away about the storyline, but as depressing a subject matter as it is, you really do come away from this one feeling good - plus there are some great comedic moments to make you laugh along the way... highly recommended.
This film should have just been called 'A Load of W**k' because it really is a load of utter w**k!
The story is basically about an old dinner looking lady (Mariane Faithful) w**king off strangers for money to pay for her sick sons operation in Australia..I mean come on can't anyone come up with anything better than that?
Avoid this steaming dogs turd at all costs!
loved this, sad and funny film, made me laugh out loud in places
Not a bad performance from Marianne Faithfull. The film is a bit simplistic but the story jogs along quite nicely.
The worst film I have ever had to experience, Dont even think about it, Step away from the keyboard DO NOT ORDER, Sick not even in an enjoyable way!!!

Well worth watching! It might not be the most in-depth study of the porno industry in Soho, but it still manages to convey the sordid atmosphere, the solitude and squallor of that world. Marianne Faithfull's performance is a joy: she says everything just with the expression in her eyes, so understated and so powerful at the same. The film makes also a strong comment on the difficulty of making a living in the work world these days if you are a middle age woman.
At times the film manages to be funny and tender too, in a sad way, thanks especially to the performance of the owner of the porn joint where Irina works.
Great stuff.
Despite the bizarre and unsavoury sounding premise, this is a gentle and quite uplifting film about a 'middle aged frump', as she calls herself, taken for granted by all, who debases herself in order to raise money to save her grandson's life and finds love, strength and dignity along the way, dealing with her sanctimonious son and hypocritical neighbours, beautifully led by Jenny Agutter. Terrific performances at the centre of it. I loved it.
A quirky little film, entertaing, romantic and predictable. Marianne Faithful proves to be a good actress with an innate sexuality.
Moving subject & fun film. Can imagine how it could happen when you want to help a family member
OK maybe Im a bit of a prude but I didnt like this film at all. The idea was good and the acting, (from what I saw) was good BUT there really wasnt need to be so graphic about what she was doing, that could just as easily been implied and the effect just as good, sometimes less is better as with horror films. Shame.
