Seems that this was definitely intended as an homage to Truffaut - an intention clearly signalled by the starring role for Jean-Pierre Léaud - if not as a marriage between the New and the New, New Wave as Assayas took the opportunity to wed the leading lady.

The final sequence seems pale in the current world of CGI, so looking back looking forward this seems not to succeed - and looking back looking back the black and white silent movie images seem to be the most powerful thing about this film.

Half-hearted and lacking any real depth or breadth, thanks heavens it is only 93mins....
