[Highly rated reviewer]what can be said about iron eagle,it is your typical 80's actioner where no matter what the hero does, lke fly into enemy airspace take out and cripple the entire armed forces on an enemy nation and save his dad while learning a valuable lesson from the supected dead mentor who turns up at the end with minor bumps and bruises.if only all films where like this i mean it even has a montage
being a child of the 80's and being raised on films like this means it holds a special place in my heart so love it or loathe it if you want 80's cheese then this film has it in spades

Iron Eagle soars high!By a customer from Orpington , 27 Oct 2009
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideIron Eagle is a high flying action adventure thriller. The story of a young man trying to get the approval of his father, and prove to himself that he can do anything, something that anyone can relate to. It's very 80s, with music and hairstyles, and of course politics! But it's still fun to watch. This film came out around the time that Top Gun did, and in terms of flight choreography and the story of a young fighter pilot, Top Gun is better, but it's enjoyable anyway. A young man's father is shot down and held by an enemy middle Eastern country, and the son, along with a little help from Louis Gossett Jr's character, is the only one who can bust him out.
The way he gets his intelligence for his mission, and steals a fighter jet, is very far-fetched, even for an action movie of this type. But it's fun, as when the mission finally starts and he takes on the entire middle Eastern air force (the film not specifying where he was shot down!), listening to his personal stereo, he flies to save his father and blow up bad guys while listening to rock and roll! As I said, it's not as good as Top Gun, and more low budget, and a real example of the Reagan era, and the 80s, where it was seemingly 'us' (UK and USA) against the world. But an enjoyable film, if at the same time very cheesy!
Check it out!
Iron EagleBy a customer from Shrewsbury , 06 Oct 2009You probably need to love flying, planes etc to get the best from this film. Touch of the Goonies but in the air. Adventure and laughs, a good family film, although now quite dated with fashions etc. Still worth watching.
iron eagleBy a customer from Haverfordwest , 30 Mar 2009cheese on toast with a big dollop of ketchup,i love it
Iron eagleBy a customer from Cheadle , 26 Jan 2009A 1980s film about an air force officers son who wants to be a fast jet pilot but is refused entry to the airforce academy due to his grades and the fact he cant keep out of trouble.
His father is attacked in international waters and is taken prisoner by a hostile middle eastern country.
due to the fact that no rescue attempt is being made the son turns to a reserve air force colonel for help,to mount a mission to rescue his dad.
Even though this is a entertaining film its probably a little dated now but for anyone interested in fast jets its good for the fact that the f-16s are in desert colours and some of the air to air shots are very impressive.
Worth a watch but its age shows it up a little.
