A real gem......but ?
By a customer from Farnborough Hants , 05 Nov 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a cracking watch throughout the seemingly civilised occupation is replaced slowly but surely by the menace of the Nazi invaders, the story in the main concentrates on the experiences of three families. It shows the best and the worst of both sides. 'We are invaders, alone , without women. -But sooner or later the invader in us will come out !!'
Unfortunately their is a problem with this series, it was never finished. The writer; Stephen Mallatratt (Who incidentally plays the vicar) died tragically and the capitulation of the German Forces and the worst years of the occupation were never covered. The series is still a complete gem and worth watching- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)Didn't like it
By Tillyflop (100 reviews) from England , 31 Mar 2009I cancelled the rest of the series after watching the first episode. Within minutes of the film starting it was obvious that it was quite recent as the terminology used was not what would have been used in that period. They called people 'guys'. That term would not have been used by the British. Unfortunately it is coming into use in the UK now but not then.
The way the people were depicted was awful and certainly not true to life ... If they're going to make a period drama then it should be that period, warts and all, not some figment of a producer's imagination.- Was this review helpful to you?
