Most helpful review
Paul Kaye at his best
By rebecca from london , 06 Jun 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This film is brillant, really funny but not a total comedy as it is based on a true story and gets quite deep at times, still fun watch and one not to miss.- Was this review helpful to you?

(232)GREAT IDEA; WEAK EXECUTION
By a customer , 30 Dec 2012Narcissistic, depressing and self-indulgent White movie about narcissistic, depressing and self-indulgent White people for narcissistic, depressing and self-indulgent White people. Whites are unwilling to satirise their own culture in any profound way, for fear of being cut adrift from it and not being accepted by others, so offer only gruel in place of explanation as to why White culture is as empty as it is. The movie should have spent more time with the problem and its acceptance and far less time with the problem. Something of a wasted dramatic opportunity - despite the very good cast - since the change from child to man is weakly dramatized in a movie with a great idea but mediocre execution. Nowhere near as good as David Essexs Stardust. This movie is not terribly funny nor very moving because there is no real insight into the people depicted - not even into deafness - so there is nothing for an audience to become emotionally-involved with. And like a joke with a predictable punchline, one longs for it to end.- Was this review helpful to you?

Awesome suprise
By TheRonburgandy (1 review) , 06 Jan 2012This film is far better than the title suggests! The mocumentory style manages to pull off what could have been a bland glorified Ibiza uncovered first half with aplomb.
Great cast - Paul Kaye is amazing in this, he brings his own breed of cool and physicality into the film. Can't think of many other people who could have played the character.
Has some superb comedy/mic take moments along with the more heart felt and serious second half of the film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Triumph over adversity
By a customer from Loughborough , 07 Oct 2010I found this to be a great film!
It was a bit slow to start with but the film really came into its own half way through, to a great finish.
Paul Kaye plays the part of Frankie really well!
The film highlights the way Frankie copies with his hearing impairment, showing how you can triumph over adversity.- Was this review helpful to you?

Gets interesting about half way through
By blackgal (211 reviews) from Worksop , 10 Sep 2010This film is quite boring to start with and I almost turned it off but it does get better half way through to the end. It's not my usual kind of film but if you are into the club scene then it would be your type of film. Overall I would not recommend it!- Was this review helpful to you?

All gone Pete right..
By djeggman78 (1 review) from Tamworth , 19 Dec 2009Just a short review, i first saw this on release it was out during the dance/drug movie boom with human traffic and south west 9 and sorted among others.....Obviously Human Traffic was the big winner as it defined the generation of 90's dance music culture, but this film was also amazing to watch tinged with side splitting humour and also very heartfelt with the demise of frankie wilde, Paul Kaye is genius as the starring role and really shines as the comedic leading man (he should have done a lot more since)......overall i would rate this 5/5 they really dont make british films like these anymore its all mockney/cockney gangsters....- Was this review helpful to you?
